Our stories

GUDULE SHOOTS FOR THE MOON

or how biodynamic agriculture helps us keep our feet on the ground.

It was in 1969, just 50 years ago, that man first set foot on the moon. Out there in the immensity of space, Earth must have looked very small and fragile.
Forty years earlier, a man, Rudolph Steiner had noticed the same thing. He was a philosopher and scientist who laid the foundations for what we now call biodynamic agriculture, an approach that sees the Earth as a whole, living in sync with interacting matter, plants and animals.

Regarded for many years, and still by some today, as a rather eccentric discipline, the results of biodynamic agriculture cannot be denied. Here in the land that is regenerating. Here in the grapes that gorge themselves on natural soil. Here in the wine that tells the story of respect for its terroir. Here in the meticulous work of the wine-grower.

Here in our cellar, it is the lunar calendar that sets the pace for the different stages of the wine-making process. A biodynamic approach that helps establish the perfect conditions when the stars align (magnetic fields etc.). It is a constraint that we have imposed on ourselves not because of folklore, but because others who have gone before us have noticed the benefits (try a Romanée-Conti if you want proof!).

Pair large text with an image to give focus to your chosen product, collection, or blog post. Add details on availability, style, or even provide a review.

Our wine isn’t one for the enlightened few, but we hope that it will light up your table like the lantern of our patron saint, who also no doubt sought help from the Moon to find her way home. Home to the land that our cellar strives to introduce to the world by maintaining the characteristics of each terroir that contributes to its wines. MAKING GOOD WINE IN THE CITY? YOU HAVE TO DRINK IT TO BELIEVE IT!

Gudule Winery Brussels is an Urban Winery and as such joins the pioneers of the genre.

An Urban what?

Much more than a closed circle, it is a family spirit whose founding principles aim to inscribe the winery in the urban fabric, participate in the local economy, get closer to the consumer, share the adventure with him and finally (and first and foremost) make wine, even very good wine.

Like the cities in which they are located, each winery is however a different story, a unique encounter, the realization of a dream. At Gudule, each cuvée is the result of a meticulous blending that respects the passionate work of our winemaker friends and the emotional terroir that Brussels cultivates.

We therefore make wines with a Brussels accent. Wines that accompany the emulation of the city and the meeting of ideas. Five vintages to share around a good table or at a picnic in the heart of Brussels, an extraordinary cosmopolitan and multicultural city whose wines, which freely combine several grape varieties, echo each other.

To continue your meeting with the Urban Wineries we invite you to read the excellent article from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust where you will be able to discover some great names such as London Cru or Red Hook Winery from New York City.

And to discover our cellar or simply to uncork one of our bottles, it's here.

Gudule likes all music

Wine and music have this in common that they bring people together. So imagine the effect that the combination of the two can have. A unique multi-sensory experience that invites you to share incredible emotions.

What wine for which music?

Here there are no great theories that would try to compartmentalize a genre to a vintage, the main thing is that you like it. The notes of a wine, its power, its harmony are all characteristics that echo the sounds produced by your favourite band or orchestra. A shared vocabulary to translate emotions that are sometimes complex to express. So the simplest thing to do is to try it for yourself.

Put some taste in your ears by pairing one of our vintages with your favourite record. Some suggestions: "Retour du Marché", with its blend of Grenache noir and Cabernet Franc, might be a perfect match for the song "Brussels".Brussels"by Dick Annegarn, while "BrusselsJacques Brel's "Bruxelles" would be more suited to our vintage wine "Après-midi au Parc", the Cinsault and Syrah are no doubt responsible for this. Are you a rock fan? “TemperplaneThe Belgian band Montevideo's "Temperplane" will be used for you at a "Afterwork en Terrasse" with colleagues. It's up to you to discover it.
