Gudule makes her wine in Brussels

Gudule is a bit like a cooperative of winegrowers who bring together their production and know-how.

A winegrower without land

Walking the roads of France and Navarre, I put on my boots to smell the soil, sharpen my senses and feed my passion for wine. Then, one day, I decided to make it my profession. However, as I didn't own any vineyards and lived in Brussels, the challenge was great. There was only one solution for me: to bring in the grapes, in bunches. And this is where I work it, surrounded by my family and friends. My name is Thierry Lejeune and I was a printer.

Urban sustainable production

Our winery aims to exclusively produce organic wines mainly for local and direct distribution. By supplying us with our precious primary ingredient, our wine growing friends entrust us with the soul of their “terroir”. So yes, our winery isn’t in the middle of the vineyards but planted right in the heart of the city where we are most accessible. It is here, in the city centre, that we aim to maximise the value of our waste and by-products with our close partners. The circular economy in motion.

The first Brussels wine dedicated to his patron saint

Gudule was very young when she discovered divine grace. One evening, as she was walking home after a day of prayer, the flickering flame of the lantern which guided her footsteps blew out, plunging the beautiful girl into the night darkness. A devil was playing tricks on her and with his malicious breath, had summoned the shadows so that she would be lost. Gudule could have died, abandoning herself to the fatal destiny suffered by those who had trodden the same path before her, but Gudule had faith in this tiny light which revives hope when all is lost, and her lamp was reignited by a divine power. As a symbol of religious devotion, the people of Brussels chose Gudule as their patron saint, and we still carry that tiny spark which allows us to move mountains and hills.
